Gen 0 PIAs

AI Governance

All Phases

Executive Sponsor, Transformation Leader, Governance Steward, AI Oversight Team

Overview

Gen 0 PIAs are the enterprise’s first human‑operated Process Intelligence Agents. They convert authored meaning into governed interrogation patterns that guide decisions, enforce alignment, and eliminate drift across teams, systems, and vendors.

Gen 0 PIAs are not automation. They are not AI. They are the governance layer that prepares the enterprise for deterministic AI by ensuring that every decision follows the same governed logic.

They are the bridge between authored meaning and future Gen 2 enforcement.

What Gen 0 PIAs Are

Gen 0 PIAs are structured, governed, repeatable interrogation patterns that:

  • guide decisions using authored meaning

  • enforce consistency across teams and vendors

  • eliminate drift in interpretation and execution

  • validate readiness, alignment, and risk

  • expose ambiguity before it reaches systems or AI

  • prepare the enterprise for deterministic PIAs

They are the first time an enterprise can operate meaning, not just document it.

Why Gen 0 PIAs Matter

Gen 0 PIAs solve the core problems that make AI unsafe and transformations unpredictable:

  • inconsistent decision‑making

  • tribal interpretation of meaning

  • vendor‑shaped definitions

  • unclear readiness and alignment criteria

  • invisible drift across teams

  • misclassified exceptions

  • ambiguous escalation paths

By enforcing governed interrogation patterns, Gen 0 PIAs create:

  • consistent decisions

  • predictable outcomes

  • defensible governance

  • aligned vendor behavior

  • safe AI‑enabled operations

They are the operational backbone of governed AI.

What Gen 0 PIAs Deliver

Each Gen 0 PIA includes:

Governed Interrogation Pattern

A structured sequence of governed questions that:

  • validate meaning

  • expose drift

  • enforce alignment

  • surface exceptions

  • confirm readiness

  • assess risk

Decision Logic

Clear, governed rules for:

  • acceptable vs unacceptable conditions

  • alignment vs misalignment

  • readiness vs not ready

  • risk vs no risk

Escalation Rules

Defined triggers for:

  • sponsor escalation

  • governance review

  • exception handling

  • risk mitigation

Interpretation Notes

Guidance that prevents:

  • misinterpretation

  • vendor drift

  • inconsistent application

Drift Points

Explicit markers where drift is most likely to occur, with governed controls to prevent it.

How Gen 0 PIAs Work

Gen 0 PIAs operate through a simple, governed flow:

  1. Interrogate the situation using the governed pattern.

  2. Validate meaning against the Meaning Model.

  3. Identify exceptions using governed exception classes.

  4. Assess readiness using Compass Bearings.

  5. Determine alignment using governed rules.

  6. Escalate if any governed trigger is met.

  7. Document the decision for governance and future automation.

This creates a consistent, defensible, repeatable decision every time.

Examples

Gen 0 PIAs apply across all enterprise domains, including:

  • Order to Cash (O2C)

  • Procure to Pay (P2P)

  • Hire to Retire (HR)

  • IT Service Management (ITSM)

  • Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)

How Gen 0 PIAs Eliminate Drift

Gen 0 PIAs eliminate drift by enforcing governed interrogation patterns that:

  • Guide decisions using authored meaning

  • Enforce consistency across teams and vendors

  • Expose ambiguity before it reaches systems or AI

  • Validate readiness, alignment, and risk

  • Surface exceptions and misclassifications

  • Define explicit escalation paths

  • Prevent tribal interpretation and vendor drift

  • Create consistent, repeatable, defensible decisions

Any domain with decisions, exceptions, or readiness criteria benefits from Gen 0 PIAs.

Gen 0 PIAs and the Generational Curve

Gen 0 PIAs sit between authored meaning and deterministic autonomy.

Meaning Model → Gen 0 PIAs → Gen 1 → Gen 1.5 → Gen 2 → Gen 3

  • Gen 0: Human‑operated governance

  • Gen 1: Meaning becomes operational

  • Gen 1.5: Meaning becomes machine‑readable

  • Gen 2: Meaning becomes enforced

  • Gen 3: Meaning becomes autonomous

Gen 0 PIAs are the first operational step toward governed autonomy.
